    Historic Coal Mine “Guido”


    The mine was founded in 1855 by Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck and took his name from its name. In the 1960’s it was transformed into the Experimental Coal Mine “M-300” and in 1982 the mine became a branch of the Museum of Coal Mining in Zabrze.

    The only underground tourist route in Poland that allows exploration of the underground passages of a former mine containing silver-bearing ore. The route is 1740m long and includes a boat ride along a 270m long underground section.

It is a city that can boast about possessing its civic rights for nearly 600 years. The rapidly growing city was destroyed during the Swedish invasion, which also decimated its inhabitants.

    This is part of the Miedzyrzecz Fortified Region, a German system of surface and underground fortifications between the years 1936 and 1944. The trail includes the Stronghold Group “Scharnhorst” which includes bunkers no.717 and no.716 bunkers and the underground station “Heindrich” as well as barracks and warehouses.

    The period from the late 19th century to the outbreak of the Second World War was a new era for Srebrna Gora. The city, which in its history first developed due to the mining industry and later the massive fortress with a large garrison, was a source of wealth for the local residents. The removal of the fortress in the second half of the 19th century was economically disastrous it also created an opportunity for the dynamic development of tourism. The stormy history of the mid-20th century halted this process for many years.

    The Basilica Cathedral, dedicated to the apostles St Peter and St Paul, is located on the island of Ostrow Tumski in Poznan and dates back to the very origins of Christianity in Poland in the second half of the 10th century. At the time a church, dedicated to St Peter, was built on this spot which was the residence of the first bishop in Poland.

    The underground chalk passages in Chelm are the remnants of excavations of writing chalk under the city over a several centuries. They have also served as a shelter for the residents of the city at the time of attacks, war and plunder.
    Under the Old Town buildings on the slopes of a chalk hill, there are excavations which, over hundreds of years, had their origins in the basements of inhabitant’s houses.

    Gold mining in the area around Zlotoryja dates back to the second half of the 12th century. The largest gold mining boom was in the 12th and 13th centuries. The gold was extracted from the gold-bearing sands or by digging tunnels following the veins rich in gold dust.




    Holy Hill is a place of religious worship since the fourteenth century. Today the beautiful baroque church is a sanctuary. The Basilica was built between 1675-1698.

    The cave on Bisnik Hill has been famous for a long time. The local people believed that it contained hidden treasures which were the reason for digging in the sediments. The last of the local treasure hunters were encountered here in 1965, still having a deep belief in its existence. They have been right, there were treasures here, but probably not as they imagined.

  • Ciemna Cave

    Ciemna Cave


    A cave of karst origin, gouged from limestone in the Late Jurassic Period. It consists of one large chamber which turns into a tapering, dead-end passageway. Well defined eddy current erosions can be seen in the ceiling of the cave.
