The Zamoyski Museum

General

Egységtípus:

The palace and park In Kozłówka is situated 35 km north of Lublin. The building was the seat of two outstanding polish families: Bieliński and Zamoyski.

The palace was built for Michał Bieliński, the governor of the Chełmno province, and his wife, Tekla neé Pepłowski, between 1735 and 1742 probably after Joseph II Fontana's design. The palace is in late Baroque style with some elements of rococo and is located "between the courtyard and the garden", symmetrically along the main view axis. There are farm buildings on both sides of the courtyard: a stable, a coach house, two one-storey guardhouses, and a kitchen (southern). A complete conversion for Konstanty Zamoyski took place in the years 1880-1911, as a result major components were added to the palace, including: two towers, elegant stairs on the garden side, a terrace with a portico on the front, and terraces on each side. A chapel, a theatre, and a guest room (northern) were also built. An additional floor was built on the guardhouses. The park was re-designed.

The perfectly maintained palace-park complex ant the continuous care of the buildings (chapel, coach-house) and the garden were honoured with many important international awards ( Europa Nostra, Polish national Historic Monuments, 7 New Wonders of the Poland" by National Geographic Traveler magazine).
